The University of Hawaii men’s basketball team’s road game at Cal State Fullerton has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Rainbow Warriors program, the school announced Monday.

UH had been scheduled to play the Titans on Thursday in its Big West opener, but the Rainbow Warriors have yet to recover from a COVID-19 outbreak that has put the team on pause since late December. The game is declared a no-contest, and UH said the status of the Rainbow Warriors’ game at Long Beach State on Saturday is yet to be determined.

The Rainbow Warriors (4-5) last played in the consolation semifinals of the Diamond Head Classic, falling to South Florida 76-69 on Dec. 23. The next day, UH said it did not have enough players to play in the tournament’s seventh-place game against Northern Iowa, set for Dec. 25, due to injuries and COVID issues. The following week, the school announced that the team would be put on pause from all activities due to COVID-19.

UH has had three conference games called off so far this season. In addition to Thursday’s game, the ‘Bows’ home games against UC Davis on Dec. 30 and UC Riverside on Jan. 1 were canceled. The game against the Highlanders was canceled on Dec. 23 due to COVID issues withing the UC Riverside program, while the game against the Aggies was scrapped due to the UH outbreak.

Meanwhile, the No. 1-ranked UH men’s volleyball team is set to open its season Wednesday against No. 7 Loyola-Chicago. Prior to the match, the Rainbow Warriors will celebrate their 2021 NCAA national championship title with a banner unveiling in the rafters of SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center. Also, the UH women’s basketball team (3-6) is set to resume its season Thursday at home against Long Beach State.
